The House on Mango Street
For this essay we had to choose a prompt, we had two choices and I chose the second one. For the past month we have been following the story of Esperanza, the main character in Sandra Cisneros' novella, The House on Mango Street. Because she has the opportunity to witness the mistakes made by several different women in her neighborhood, Esperanza learns that she can only rely on herself if she wants to escape the poverty and discrimination that enslaves her neighborhood.
In a multi-paragraph essays that includes quotes to support your opinion, describe how the life experiences of three different women influence Esperanza to only depend on herself in order to escape Mango Street. On my essay I got a A which I think is a good grade. At first I had gotten an C+, but we got to revise and fix all our mistakes so we could improve our grade and I did and got B.
