While working at Thinkabit Lab I gained a new appreciations for teachers, I realized while working with children and trying to teach kindergartners about coding that it was very difficult to hold their attention and keep them interested in the work. I gained a new respect for my teachers because this is their daily work life and it can get very tiring.
One the of the qualities I noticed around me was that one of the staff members was a data analyst and she was always coming up with ways to clean her data and find new innovative ways to stay organized. I realized while I acquire some of this skill that I would really benefit from devolving it more and she set a great example of it.
I think during this externship I realized that even though I was never interested in engineering, there were some aspects of it I did like. I enjoyed the building process and watching the children ideas come to life. However I know now for sure that I do not want to be a teacher after high school. I think this experience has brought many benefits and was also very eye opening because of the teaching experience I had.
While I was externship I was more curious about Qualcomm and all it offered. I know now that that they are not only full of engineers but there are many other job opportunities. It also led me to wonder what the future holds for the technology world and what new inventions are to come forth, and how far is too far? What new things will come out next and when will be satisfied with our technology?
This externship will direct me in my life because I will connection to Qualcomm so I know that if I am ever interested in Qualcomm again I will have it. And also that I do not want to become a teacher.
I think working with my fellow interns and doing a lot of group collaboration has helped me see that I really enjoy and thrive working on group format. I love working with others who are open minded and willing to help one another when needed. I also that you need this skill in order to work in the real world. Not many jobs require a one person job, you are usually involved with many other people and learning this skill this at this age will go far in my life.
- Take and post a photo of a person, place or thing related to your externship experience and describe how it might be seen as a metaphor for your futur
Even though this picture is not necessarily the best one to describe my externship it was one of the highlights of my time. In our previous blog post assignments were told to capture a moment of self advocacy and this was a true moment. Through all of externship from day one to last day I constantly asked for help and I never once felt ashamed or embarrassed about it. And in this picture one of our students got a servo stuck in her hair and I decided to capture it. While it was a terrible thing you cannot always take life and your job so seriously the best thing to do in time of stress is to ask for help and most of the time it is given. |
